Converted Family Room

This project involved the transformation of a former golf clubhouse commons area into a welcoming living room within a newly converted single-family residence.

Location: Zionsville, IN

Designer Credits: Rebekah Perry Clark

Project Overview:

The primary challenge was defining a comfortable, functional living space within an oversized open area while accommodating both large family gatherings and everyday relaxation. The existing opening to the rear of the space was drywalled to create a more intimate footprint and allow the room to function as a true living area focused on conversation, comfort, and television viewing. A generously scaled sofa was positioned directly across from the fireplace and television to establish the primary seating anchor.

Four swivel chairs upholstered in a subtle mosaic pattern were added to introduce visual interest, flexibility, and ample seating without overwhelming the room. A custom-designed walnut coffee table was created specifically for the space, providing warmth and scale while fitting seamlessly within the seating arrangement. A neutral striped shag rug was centered beneath the furnishings to ground the room and soften the surrounding architectural elements.

A meaningful piece of artwork sketched by a family member was thoughtfully incorporated as a focal point.
